Sand tiger shark in a public tank

I am a retired marine biologist. Thirty years in public aquariums — water chemistry, elasmobranch handling, exhibit design arguments I usually lost. I am not a floor volunteer. I am not an educator with a cart. I stand at the glass and take notes the way I used to take notes on a clipboard.

I live in Toronto. These pages started because friends asked what to look at besides “the big fish.” The honest answer is: sand tigers that gulp air, a sawfish you will miss if you only use the belt, turtles that surface nowhere near the camera, and a jellyfish room that has nothing to prove.
